Topics can be joined or dismissed according to your preferences. As a standard usage scenario, Topics are created by a team member to exchange information only with people who are directly interested in the subject of that topic. Should you discover that a Topic is not of interest to you, all you need to do is click the Unwatch icon, as per the image below:
